Dr. Henderson was born and raised in Gary, Indiana and graduated from Indiana University with a degree in biology. She worked two summers as a pediatric dental assistant, which inspired her to select dentistry as a career. Dr. Henderson graduated from Indiana University School of Dentistry in 1979 and became a licensed dentist.
In 1981, following her residency training at James Whitcomb Riley Hospital for Children, she accepted a commission from the US Public Health Service. The Navajo Indian Reservation became Dr. Lori’s home and workplace for the next eight years.
In 1989 Dr. Henderson moved to Columbia, Missouri, opened a pediatric dental practice, married, and started a family. “My career in pediatric dentistry has offered more than I could have imagined when I started my training; innovations in preventive oral health, dental materials, digital radiology, meeting wonderful families and watching my patients mature and graduate from high school. I feel privileged to have practiced long enough to now be providing care for children of former patients.”
Dr. Lori is actively involved in dental organizations and charities. She is a member of the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, a member of the International College of Dentists, and an ADA Evidence Based Dentistry Champion. Dr. Lori has been a volunteer dentist for the King’s Daughters Dental Aid Program for over 25 years. Dr. Henderson proudly served as the local chairperson for the 4th Missouri Mission of Mercy, a two day event hosted at the Hearnes Center where 1700 under served adults and children received more than one million dollars worth of free dental care.
Dr. Henderson actively supports the Missouri Coalition for Oral Health and the Missouri Dental Association in their efforts to improve oral health for all Missourians. She also serves as the American Academy Public Policy Advocate for Missouri. In 2014 Dr. Lori was recognized for her successful defense of community water fluoridation by the Campaign for Dental Health and the Missouri Coalition for Oral Health.
