Farewell To My Valued Patients:

Last summer I started receiving reminders about my dental school reunion. It made me reflect upon how much I have enjoyed practicing dentistry for forty years, thirty of them here in Columbia. I was less excited to realize 2019 was also the year I enroll for Medicare! I want to thank you for your trust and confidence in allowing me to care for your oral health over the years. It has been my singular honor to serve your family. Knowing you has enriched my life. I cherish the smiles, stories about pets, school and family vacations, your drawings – the list of my happy memories could fill a book. My next step, transitioning my practice to another dentist, began with a careful search for a special person with the experience and enthusiasm to provide your family with continuity of care at the same familiar place with the colorful tent, computer game, and toy machines. I found a dentist committed to family-centered dental care who is ready to transition from public health dentistry to private practice, Dr. Michelle Mooney. I now have the peace of mind to begin my retirement on April 30, 2019. Originally from the Kansas City area, Dr. Mooney is a Mizzou graduate who returned to Columbia after completing dental school at UMKC. Like me, Dr. Mooney started her career in public health. She has served a wide range of patients in mid-Missouri for the past four and a half years, especially enjoying her work with children. In fact, for the last three years she has worked on a mobile dental program, going into schools to treat kids that otherwise may not visit a dentist. Dr. Mooney has told me she finds it truly rewarding to gain the trust of her youngest patients and show them that a trip to the dentist is nothing to fear and can be quite fun. She also provides adult dental care and strives to help each patient meet their individual oral health goals. She is excited to embark on this new journey and continue the personalized and preventative focused practice that you have come to expect. Dr. Mooney and I understand that changing dentists can be an adjustment and we are working together to make your family’s transition as smooth as possible. I know you will be pleased with Dr. Mooney and will extend her the same courtesy and loyalty that you have afforded me over these many years. Please give the office a call at 573-446-6868 to schedule an appointment, summer visits fill up quickly. And remember, Dr. Mooney is an excellent general practitioner and will provide dental care for adults as well as children. Dr. Mooney becomes the custodian of your family’s electronic records following the transition and will maintain them securely here at the office. We have enclosed a form to transfer dental records to Dr. Mooney for your convenience. We will gladly answer any of your questions about the transition, drlorihenderson@gmail.com or mjmooneydds@gmail.com
